Zack Snyder defends Aquaman on Detroit radio, teases movie appearance

You don’t have Aquaman to kick around anymore — not if Zack Snyder has anything to say about it, at least.

On Friday, the “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” director, who is currently shooting in Detroit, called in to the local talk radio show “Stoney and Bill” to defend the seafaring superhero from “disparaging” remarks — and also teased that the character could make an appearance in his upcoming movie, as has been rumored.

“Aquaman has some cool abilities,” Snyder said on the show. (A representative for Snyder confirmed to The Times that the voice is his.) Many people, the director said, think Aquaman’s powers consist mostly of talking to fish. To the contrary, “He’s super-strong,” and he wields a trident “that could actually cut the flesh of Superman.”

Snyder, who said he was on his way to set, coyly added, “Not to say he’s in my movie or anything like that.... He has the potential to be badass, that’s all I’m saying.”

While plot details for “Batman v. Superman” have been shrouded in secrecy, actor Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo on HBO’s “Game of Thrones”) has been widely rumored to play Aquaman in the movie, which hits theaters March 25, 2016. Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot are playing Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, respectively.

Warner Bros. has big plans for a cinematic universe based on DC Comics, and recently announced nine such movies — as yet untitled — to be released through 2020.
