‘San Andreas’ trailer: Dwayne Johnson gets rocked by quakes and waves
Here are some places you don’t want to be when the Big One hits, according to the new trailer for “San Andreas”: the Hollywood Sign. The Hoover Dam. The Golden Gate Bridge.
Here’s somewhere you do want to be: in Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s helicopter.
That’s pretty much the only sliver of safety that doesn’t get reduced to rubble or swept up in a massive tidal wave in the new clip for the disaster epic, which Warner Bros. will release May 29.
Directed by Brad Peyton (“Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”), “San Andreas” stars Johnson as family man and rescue pilot Ray, who saves ex-wife Emma (Carla Gugino) in the nick of time when an earthquake levels the Southland. The two then head up to San Francisco to retrieve their daughter (Alexandra Daddario).
The trouble is, “The shaking is not over,” as Paul Giamatti’s character warns. “We will get hit again, and it’s going to be a bigger monster. The Earth will literally crack open.”
Judging from the sizable set pieces glimpsed in the trailer, the trio will have to do more than duck under a desk or huddle in a doorway to survive.
Then again, Johnson is a veteran action hero — he’s also in Universal’s “Furious 7,” opening April 3 — and a pretty hardy guy, having weathered the box office disappointment of “Hercules” last year. What’s a little shaking to a guy like that?
