Ryan Gosling in talks to join ‘Blade Runner’ sequel with Harrison Ford
Ryan Gosling should probably start brushing up on his cityspeak.
The “Drive” and “Crazy Stupid Love” star is in negotiations to join Alcon Entertainment’s sequel to “Blade Runner,” the film finance and production company announced Thursday.
Gosling would appear opposite Harrison Ford, who is set to reprise his role as the replicant-hunting cop Rick Deckard in the yet-untitled follow-up to Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi classic film.
French Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve (“Incendies,” “Prisoners”) is on board to direct from a screenplay by Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green. Fancher and Scott conceived the idea for the story, and the latter will serve as executive producer.
Details about the plot and Gosling’s potential character have yet to be revealed. It is known that the sequel will take place decades after the original film, which followed Deckard as he “retired” (that is, killed) a group of androids virtually indistinguishable from humans in a futuristic Los Angeles. The original movie was based on Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?”
Principal photography for the “Blade Runner” sequel is set to start in summer 2016. Warner Bros. will release the film.
Gosling’s other upcoming movies include Shane Black’s neo-noir “The Nice Guys,” Terrence Malick’s music drama “Weightless” and Adam McKay’s financial flick “The Big Short.”
