“Tig,” a documentary about comedian Tig Notaro, who famously turned her cancer diagnosis into a stand-up set, will open the Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival on July 9.

Festival organizers on Thursday unveiled the kickoff film, which is directed by Kristina Goolsby and Ashley York, along with the gathering’s other gala screenings.

Francois Ozon’s gender-bending melodrama “The New Girlfriend” will close the fest July 19.

In between those bookends, Outfest will screen Sebastian Silva’s “Nasty Baby,” Alante Kavaite’s “The Summer of Sangaile,” Peter Greenaway’s “Eisenstein in Guanajuato,” Morgan Neville and Robert Gordon’s “Best of Enemies,” and Malcolm Ingram’s “Out to Win.”

Christopher Racster, interim executive director of the festival, said in a statement, “The program truly represents Outfest’s commitment to use the power of film to reflect our community; highlighting our struggles and our triumphs, and ultimately creating greater understanding and change within society.”

The complete Outfest lineup will be announced June 3.
