Oscars 2015: ‘Birdman’ wins best picture
“Birdman,” Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s dazzling tour de force about an actor’s quest for reinvention and redemption, won the Oscar for best picture Sunday at the 87th Academy Awards.
“The script was crazy, but we are here and I don’t know how that happened, but it happened,” Iñárritu said from the stage. The movie’s lead, Michael Keaton, added, nodding to his director: “This has been a tremendous experience, this guy is just bold as bold can be.”

The win had been predicted by many as “Birdman” took several awards leading up to the Oscars, including the Screen Actors Guild ensemble prize, the Producers Guild best picture award and a Directors Guild honor for Iñárritu.
“Birdman” also won three other Oscars for director Iñárritu, original screenplay (given to Iñárritu, Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris Jr. and Armando Bo) and for cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki. It had been nominated for nine.
The victory marks the second consecutive best picture win for Fox Searchlight, following “12 Years a Slave” last year.
