The great, the not-so-great and the just plain weird moments from the 2016 Golden Globes

Awards season unleashes the very best, the very worst and the just plain strange in our favorite stars. The 2016 Golden Globes proved no exception. Here are some of the most noteworthy moments from this year’s red carpet and telecast including Jonah Hill’s turn as the bear from “The Revenant,” Lady Gaga’s brush with Leonardo DiCaprio and Taraji P. Henson’s cookie blitz.

The Great: An elated Taraji P. Henson passed out cookies to the audience as part of her celebration for winning actress in a TV drama for her role as, yes, Cookie in the hit series “Empire.”

The Great: Hearts broke across the Internet when “The Big Short” costars Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt appeared onstage. What did they say? No one really remembers, they were too busy swooning.

The Great: The overwhelming vote for best duo to present next year’s Golden Globe Awards went to Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer, who put on an endearingly hilarious performance when they appeared together onstage.

The Great: Social media just couldn’t get enough of peppy Rachel Bloom’s energetic acceptance speech after her win for best actress in a TV comedy for “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” Slate called it “wonderfully exuberant” and Popsugar called it “adorably perfect.” But whatever the take, the take-away was completely charming. The Great: Jaimie Alexander was a standout star on the red carpet in a green-and-black Genny gown from the label’s spring 2016 collection. The reason was likely a neckline that plunged toward the deep south. The key to pulling off the sexy look, said Alexander, was plenty of adhesive.

The Great: Lady Gaga channeled Marilyn Monroe and a bit of Madonna when she stepped onto the red carpet in a voluptuous black custom Versace gown dress that she paired with a platinum hairdo and sultry eye makeup.

The Great: Bespectacled women rejoiced when Maura Tierney’s accepted her award for supporting actress in “The Affair” wearing chunky black-framed glasses. The look was pure class.

The Great / No-So-Great: Depending on your perspective, Leonardo DiCaprio did, or did not, score big points for taking time during his acceptance speech to remember the plight of indigenous people. More jaded observers found the speech cynical given the fact that “The Revenant” doesn’t reflect the values that DiCaprio was touting. They also thought it appeared to be a dry run for a possible Oscar’s acceptance speech. Others were just glad DiCaprio injected a valuable social justice issue into the evening’s conversation.

The No-So-Great: There was controversy online after Sly Stallone’s acceptance speech for “Creed.” The music swelled before the actor had a chance to thank director Ryan Coogler, which made many feel he was guilty of a massive slight. However, those on the scene witnessed Sly try to get the thanks in but just missing out as the show cut to commercial break. Still, Stallone did manage to thank a fictional character (played by himself) before he thanked the very real-life Coogler.

The Not-So-Great: Even though the odd gambit paid off and Ridley Scott’s interstellar tale “The Martian” won best picture in the comedy category, the fact that it was nominated as such did not sit well with many Globe observers. The result was ruthless mocking throughout most of the night.

The Just Plain Weird: Jonah Hill joined Channing Tatum onstage at the Golden Globes as the bear from “The Revenant.” The laughs were slow to come as Hill stumped for “honey awareness” and lamented that he, the bear, was not nominated for best supporting actor. Social media declared the spoof un-bear-able.

The Just Plain Weird: Channing Tatum was the subject of unwanted speculation after he arrived on the Golden Globes red carpet with a somewhat bizarre haircut. Nobody was quite sure what look he was going for but more than a few “who-wore-it-better? Channing Tatum or Justin Bieber” jokes were tossed around.

The Just Plain Weird: One of the night’s best GIF’s featured a triumphant Lady Gaga brushing against a laughing Leonardo DiCaprio on her slow march to the stage to accept her award for best actress in limited series or TV movie on “American Horror Story.” When the aforementioned body-rub happens, Leo’s face dawns a priceless look of surprise mixed with something like mock fear.

The Just Plain Weird: So what did Ricky Gervais say to Mel Gibson during that bleeped-out moment after he lampooned the notorious actor’s reported drinking problems? The pair engaged in a tete-de-tete that proved more awkward than comical and left viewers all a-twitter about why it happened.
