‘Ghostbusters’ reboot casts ‘SNL’ alum Neil Casey as villain

Sony’s “Ghostbusters” reboot has found its villain in Neil Casey, the writer, actor and comic who comes as the latest “Saturday Night Live” alumnus to board the supernatural action-comedy.

Casey will join fellow “SNL” veterans Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon in director Paul Feig’s film, a person with knowledge of the project confirmed to The Times. Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.

Casey has written for “Inside Amy Schumer” and “Kroll Show,” and his on-screen credits include “Broad City,” “Veep” and the Feig streaming series “Other Space.”

Set for release July 22, 2016, “Ghostbusters” is intended to reboot the franchise while telling the story of a new team of paranormal exterminators played by Wiig, Jones, McKinnon and Melissa McCarthy (a three-time “SNL” host).

The nature of Casey’s villain has yet to be revealed. An early pitch from Feig that was revealed in leaked Sony emails featured a convicted murderer whose execution is hit by an electrical storm, turning him into a superpowered ghost. According to Birth.Movies.Death., however, the movie’s bad guy may take the form of an Internet troll who’s working on a secret machine.

Others who have recently joined the “Ghostbusters” cast include Andy Garcia, Michael Kenneth Williams and Chris Hemsworth.

Also on Tuesday, Feig tweeted out a photo of the new Ecto-1, the car the women will use while hunting ghouls. The vintage-looking ride is tricked out with sirens and other equipment, and it features the classic Ghostbusters logo on the front passenger door.
