The next installment of the “Bourne” spy series has been pushed back nearly a year and will open July 15, 2016. Universal Pictures originally scheduled the yet-untitled film for Aug. 14, 2015.

Jeremy Renner will return in the lead role as Aaron Cross, and Justin Lin, a veteran of the “Fast and Furious” films, is directing.

The previous entry in the “Bourne” franchise, 2012’s “The Bourne Legacy,” introduced Cross as a new protagonist after the first three films followed the adventures of Matt Damon’s amnesiac super-spy Jason Bourne. “Legacy” received mixed reviews and grossed $276 million worldwide.

In place of the new “Bourne” movie, Universal will release its NWA biopic “Straight Outta Compton,” which stars O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as rappers Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E (Jackson is Cube’s real-life son). F. Gary Gray is directing the movie.

On its new date, the new “Bourne” movie is set to open against Fox’s “Ice Age 5.”
