Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie to reunite on the big screen

As Hollywood’s premier power couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie can be spotted at plenty of red carpet galas and charity events, not to mention the pages of countless magazines. The only place you don’t see them together? On the big screen.

That could be changing soon. The two are set to team up to star in a new movie project with a script written by Jolie, according to the Hollywood Reporter, in what would mark the pair’s first film collaboration since 2005’s “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” on which they (in)famously began their high-profile romance.

Details about the new film are unknown, although THR says it could be a relationship drama Jolie wrote about a struggling couple who take a vacation in a last-ditch attempt to save their marriage. It’s unclear what acting roles Pitt or Jolie would take, though the potential log line suggests we would see them together as an on-screen couple.

The new film would be Pitt and Jolie’s first since ascending to full-fledged Hollywood royalty and becoming known for far more than just acting.

Pitt has established himself as a heavyweight producer through his Plan B Entertainment, which has turned out such hits as “Moneyball,” “World War Z” and “12 Years a Slave.” Plan B recently came aboard the military drama “The Operators,” based on Michael Hastings’ book about Gen. Stanley McChrystal, whom Pitt is set to portray. Pitt is also starring in David Ayer’s upcoming World War II drama “Fury,” set for release Nov. 14 from Sony.

Jolie, meanwhile, has made a foray into directing. She is following her feature debut, the independent Bosnian war drama “In the Land of Blood and Honey” (2011), with her first studio picture, “Unbroken,” for Universal.

Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s bestseller, the film tells the story of Olympic runner and World War II soldier Louis Zamperini, who survived on a raft with two other crewmen for 47 days after being shot down over the Pacific, only to be captured by the Japanese and held for two years as prisoners of war.

Jolie also stars in “Maleficent,” Disney’s live-action retelling of the “Sleeping Beauty” fairy tale, opening May 30. A new Pitt-Jolie film would underscore a complicated fairy tale of a different sort.
