‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ trailer — and the blue critter’s teeth — trouble fans online
“Sonic the Hedgehog” is headed for the big screen. But not everyone is in love with the movie’s first-look trailer, which Paramount released Tuesday morning.
The CG-animated/live-action flick sees the beloved yet brash blue Sega character exploring Earth for the first time. Voiced by Ben Schwartz, Sonic soon recruits a new friend (James Marsden) to help him stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey).
The film, directed by Jeff Fowler, also stars Tika Sumpter and Adam Pally. It features a number of Sonic’s signature moves, including his ability to turn himself into a bright blue ball and travel with electrifying speed.
But it seems that the movie also spotlights a particular part of Sonic — his teeth, which for some reason resemble those of a human more than a hedgehog. Fans took to social media to share their biting comments on the character’s pearly whites:
Others tweeted their dismay of the trailer’s use of the Coolio song “Gangsta’s Paradise.”
Still, many shared (profanely) that they were won over by Carrey’s comedic turn as the franchise’s villain, also known as Eggman.
“Sonic the Hedgehog” hits theaters Nov. 8.
