Diane Keaton to receive AFI Life Achievement Award
Well, la-di-da. Diane Keaton will receive the 45th AFI Life Achievement Award, the American Film Institute’s highest honor for a career in film, in a gala tribute on June 8. The event will be broadcast on TNT with encore presentations on Turner Classic Movies.
“Diane Keaton is one of the most beloved leading ladies of American film,” said Sir Howard Stringer, chair of the AFI Board of Trustees. “Peerless in her mastery of both comedy and drama, she has won the world’s heart time and again by creating characters of both great strength and vulnerability. Her career as a director and producer is even further evidence of her passion for the art form and her seemingly boundless talents.”
Keaton, a Los Angeles native, has had a long career as actor, producer and director. Beginning her career onstage, including appearing in the original Broadway production of “Hair,” Keaton first gained attention for her work onscreen as Kay Corleone in “The Godfather” and “The Godfather: Part II.” She won the Oscar for best actress for her role in 1977’s “Annie Hall,” one of many collaborations with Woody Allen. Other notable roles include “Looking for Mr. Goodbar,” “Reds,” “Baby Boom,” “The First Wives Club” and “Something’s Gotta Give.”
Other recent recipients of the AFI Life Achievement Award include John Williams, Steve Martin, Jane Fonda, Mel Brooks and Shirley MacLaine.
