Beyonce talks Blue Ivy, regrets pressure to lose baby weight

Blue Ivy’s mom, Beyoncé, is opening up about motherhood, her struggle to lose her baby weight, and specifically, the example she wants to set for her daughter.

“I just adore being a mother, hearing her say ‘Mama’ and call me when she needs something, it makes me feel like I have a real purpose here,” the singer said in the April issue of Shape magazine, whose cover she graces. I enjoy all the things people warned me would be tough to handle.”

Queen Bey is already a role model to millions of women and proved her star power with her powerhouse performance at this year’s Super Bowl. But Jay-Z’s wife isn’t just doing what she does for herself.

“I want to have my own passions and do things that challenge me. I believe showing my daughter that side of me makes me a better mother,” she added.

The “Bow Down / I Been On” singer, who launched a teaser track Sunday leading up to her new work and upcoming world tour “The Mrs. Carter Show,” admitted that she gained 57 pounds during her pregnancy, yet again lightly alluding to rumors that she’d used a surrogate. (Beyoncé talks about that too in her Vogue interview.) But she regrets pressuring herself to get back into shape so quickly after welcoming her child in January 2012.

“I didn’t have a lot of time to lose the weight because I scheduled a show three months after I gave birth, which I would never do again!” the “Bootylicious” singer laughed.

The 31-year-old said she would “get bored” with the gym routine, putting on workout clothes and running on the treadmill. Instead, the naturally curvy lady lost 80% of her baby weight by staying on a low-calorie diet.

“For me, dancing is what keeps me active and I would just say everyone is not supposed to be the same,” she said, adding “I’ll say to [Blue Ivy], be your best self. Be healthy, take care of yourself and be truly happy with the beautiful things that make up who you are.”

As for expanding her brood with Jay-Z, the “Single Ladies” singer said “absolutely.”

“I’ll probably start after this tour. We’ll see if it happens.”

But it seems as if the couple are already juggling prospective suitors for their baby girl, and the rap mogul isn’t too thrilled about his baby girl getting smooched by Alicia Keys’ son, Egypt.

“Egypt kissed Blue, and I don’t think Jay liked it very much,” Keys said on “The Wendy Williams Show” in February. “He called my husband [Swizz Beatz] and he was like, ‘Watch your son.’”
