‘One Night in Miami’ at Rogue Machine Theatre
Although this well-appointed dramedy “One Night in Miami” concerns what might have gone down in the Hampton House the night Cassius Clay became world heavyweight champion, that doesn’t stop it from grabbing our imaginations. Centered on expressive, first-rate depictions of Clay, singer Sam Cooke, football star Jim Brown and civil-rights leader Malcolm X, the play remains tautly entertaining under director Carl Cofield. Rogue Machine at Theatre/Theater, 5041 Pico Blvd., L.A. 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 3 p.m. Sundays. Through Sept. 15. $30. (855) 585-5185, https://www.roguemachinetheatre.com.
