Zoe Saldana’s new ‘Star Trek’ uniform channels the ‘60s series
Uhura's new Starfleet uniform for "Star Trek Beyond" appears to be a shout-out to "Star Trek's" past.
Actress Zoe Saldana, who is reprising her role as the Enterprise communications officer for the third installment in the rebooted "Star Trek" movie franchise. Up until now, Uhura's Starfleet uniform had short sleeves (she's also been seen in Starfleet wetsuits, cadet uniforms and more). However, thanks to the actress' Instagram account and a photo she posted presumably from the set of "Star Trek Beyond," we now have a new look at a more classic Uhura suit.
The new long-sleeves ensemble appears to be channeling the original suit worn by Nichelle Nichols as Uhura in the 1960s "Star Trek" TV series.
With the new cut around the neck and gold piping on the cuffs, it's easy to see the similarities between the "Star Trek Beyond" suit and the "Star Trek: The Original Series" look.
Plus, it's got to be nice having the options of long sleeves on the new Enterprise deck; space seems cold.
"Star Trek Beyond" hits theaters July 22.
