‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ find a voice for Krang in Fred Armisen

The heroes in a halfshell dropped by WonderCon in Los Angeles today, but the real excitement came from the side characters from the new sequel “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.”

Megan Fox (who is playing intrepid reporter April O’Neil) and Stephen Amell (Casey Jones) joined producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller on stage to drop spoilers and news, and share what it was like filming in an alley in New York that may or may not have been covered in urine.

First, the big news. Krang the evil alien villain and his tank-like fortress the technodrome will be in the new “TMNT” film, but the pink screaming alien didn’t have a voice until now. Turns out “Saturday Night Live” alum Fred Armisen has been cast and was in the booth giving life to Krang as early as this week.

And speaking of villains, beloved duo Bebop and Rocksteady will also be a part of the new live-action “TMNT,” and the studio released a new look of the mutated creatures played by WWE World Heavyweight Champion Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly (Rocksteady) and Gary Anthony Williams (Bebop).

When asked what they were channeling in the creation of these two goons, and yes we will see their physcial transformation from human to bizarro mutant in the movie, producer Forum said, “Dumb and fun, that was our mandate. In a barroom brawl they throw haymakers. But they’re easy to dodge.”

As for the rest of the good guys, Amell was on hand to address some of the live-action adaptation deviations. Notably, he doesn’t have long hair like his character. Amell revealed that this version of Jones actually works as a corrections officer, so the long hair didn’t suit the career choice.

But, being a Canadian, Amell knows his way around a hockey stick and a pair of skates -- a thing that will probaby come in handy because his character appeared to be roller blading about on the pavement in a quickly viewed teaser footage. Also screened was a fight scene between the Jones character and (what I’m assuming) is the Foot Clan. The scene was pretty intense but thankfully full of joy. For instance, Jones takes a throwing star to the hockey goalie mask, looks up with fright and says “Where’d it go?” It went into the side of his mask. It was cute.

The rest of the panel was spent cracking jokes and sharing stories about filming in NYC.

Amell shared a story about prepping for a scene in a New York alley when a tourist bus pulled by and the guide said over the microphone, “And there’s Stephen Amell filming the new ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ movie.” The only thing he could think of doing was to wave.

Fox who admitted that the first “TMNT,” “turned out way better than I anticipated it to be,” did not enjoy filming in the alley as much as Amell. A self-diagonosed germaphobe, she didn’t enjoy crawling around in an alley, “where drunk people go to pee a lot.”

Meanwhile, on the WonderCon showroom floor, a mess of “TMNT” material was on display including a look at the Bebop chopper, a prop from the movie that the live-action combination of a warthog and a human will ride whilst fighting large turtles. Looks like the fun is finally back.
