‘Gods of Egypt’ trailer asks: What if ancient gods were real, and they loved green screen?

The first trailer for "Gods of Egypt" is out, and it looks as though "Stargate SG-1" did more justice to ancient Egyptian mythology than Summit and Lionsgate's upcoming film will.

"Gods of Egypt" stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as the Egyptian god Horus and Gerard Butler as Set, the Egyptian god of darkness.

When Set takes over the throne of Egypt and enslaves its people, only Horus can save them. A mortal thief named Bek, played by Brenton Thwaites, steals Horus' eyes back from Set and joins forces with him to defeat Set and save the world.

Translation: Prince Phillip from "Maleficent" helps Jaime Lannister overthrow King Leonidas to save the people of ancient Egypt.

Despite the glittery CGI bird armor and battle scenes that involve ripping out eyeballs, it's hard to ignore that "Gods of Egypt" seems to have followed 2014's "Exodus: Gods and Kings" in its interpretations of Egypt, the appearance of Egyptians and what those gods worshiped by Egyptians looked like.

If you can overlook the apparent "whitewashing," the trailer also reveals this ancient Egypt filled with gods, monsters and demons also includes gigantic beetles and snakes (with both apparently used as modes of transportation).

Directed by Alex Proyas, the film also features Chadwick Boseman, Elodie Yung, Courtney Eaton, Abbey Lee and Geoffrey Rush. "Gods of Egypt" is slated for a Feb. 26, 2016, release.
