While the HBO programming president reiterated during the Television Critics Assn. press tour Thursday that Jon Snow is dead, plenty of fans on social media remain skeptical.

“Dead is dead is dead is dead. He be dead. Yes,” HBO's Michael Lombardo said. “Everything I've seen and heard and read: Jon Snow is, indeed, dead.”

What Lombardo failed to address is whether Jon Snow will remain dead or whether his death actually prevents him from returning to "Game of Thrones" in one form or another.

Yes, Jon Snow met his end in the final episode of Season 5 after being stabbed repeatedly by his Night's Watch brothers. Jon Snow's counterpart in George R.R. Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire" series also met his demise in "A Dance With Dragons," also having been stabbed by his Night's Watch brothers. But does that really mean fans will not see him again?

Jon Snow's fate is uncertain in the book series as the next installment, "The Winds of Winter," has yet to be released. And as fans of the books know, a character's death doesn't necessarily mean we won't see him or her again in the series. ... Lady Stoneheart, anyone?

In fact, some fans have speculated that the reason the "Game of Thrones" series didn't tackle the Lady Stoneheart story line (other than the fact that there are so many threads to navigate already) could be that it has been waiting to introduce the idea of characters being resurrected for another occasion.

Whatever the theory, plenty of fans are skeptical that Lombardo's statement is any indication on Jon Snow's definitive fate on the show. Check out some of the tweets below.
