‘The Tick’ shows off his new look on Amazon’s revival
The giant blue superhero the Tick has been a comic, an animated series and even a live action television series. And now the comedy series will live on yet again, 15 years after the last iteration, because everything old is new again, thanks to the power of nostalgia.
Created by artist Ben Edlund, the new “Tick” series will be released on Amazon, and Edlund will serve as the show’s creator and executive producer.
“Visually and thematically, this new ‘Tick’ lives in the textures and rhetoric of today’s superhero saturation tsunami,” Edlund said in a statement, “and for it to be something you want to watch for hours, it needed to find its way to a story with heart and stakes, as well as absurdism.”
Stepping into the blue costume once worn and voiced by Patrick Warburton is British actor Peter Serafinowicz (“Guardians of the Galaxy”).
Griffin Newman (“Vinyl”) will star alongside Serafinowicz as a powerless accountant who joins forces with the Tick after realizing his city is owned by a global super villain long thought dead, played by Jackie Earle Haley. The first of the new show’s half-hour pilots will begin streaming Aug. 19.
