2014 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show spreads its lacy wings in London
The 2014 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is a fait accompli, with nothing left but the after party and next week’s global television broadcast of the sexy presentation.
More than 40 Victoria’s Secret Angels strutted on the runway Tuesday night for the annual event, held for the first time in London, with Karlie Kloss, Doutzen Kroes, Behati Prinsloo, Lily Aldridge, Candice Swanepoel, Joan Smalls and Jordan Dunn among the faces from around the world.
Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio got the Fantasy Bra honors, showing off a pair of jewel-encrusted brassieres valued at $2 million each.
Taylor Swift, 24, and Ariana Grande, 21, who performed on the runway during the show, got into the spirit of the event, coordinating for a major number with Angels clad in various lingerie ensembles with a black-lace theme.
Swift had both good-girl and bad-girl looks, rocking a long, light pink satin robe with black lace trim over a short matching nightie with plunging cleavage before changing into a black bra top and panties -- think Granny-panty coverage -- under sheer black lace. Swift, of course, counts Angels Aldridge, 29, and Kloss, 22, among her besties.
Grande needed nothing but a flirty half skirt -- the back half -- when she rocked the sparkling black bra crop-top and Granny-panty look with over-the-knee boots. The 5-foot-tall singer also could have used another 12 inches in height if she wanted to see eye-to-eye with her scantily clad counterparts when the singers and a host of models took the stage together in a segment finale behind a fall of big black balloons and little silvery-white ones.
The guys who performed, rockers Ed Sheeran and Hozier, had it easier: “Doing the Victoria secrets fashion show tonight,” Sheeran tweeted hours before the gig, “and I’m eating a Greggs sausage roll in the dressing room.”
Twenty-five makeup artists, 25 hairstylists and nine manicurists were required to manifest the models’ myriad looks, according to USA Today.
The models have been excitedly chronicling the action around the VS show for days, starting with 30 of the Angels boarding a private flight early Sunday from New York’s JFK airport to London Stansted Airport.
Sunday night, 48 of the beauties made a surprise appearance en masse at the new VS store on Bond Street, Fashion One reported, creating a sea of perfectly fitting jeans, VS-branded T-shirts and black leather jackets and impossibly flowing long hair.
Doetzen Kroes, Karlie Kloss and others shared backstage photos before the show kicked off.
Mere mortals can see the show, edited down to an hour for TV, at 10 p.m. Dec. 9 on CBS.
