Rita Wilson beats her breast cancer: ‘I’m 100% healthy!’

Rita Wilson has beat her cancer.

“I am cancer-free,” the 59-year-old actress-singer told People at a Hollywood Reporter event this week. “I’m 100% healthy!”

In February, she’ll embark on a cross-country bus tour with her band, and her husband, Tom Hanks, plans to join her on the road.

“I feel really blessed and very lucky,” she said, noting that part of the reason for going on tour is “to show people that you can have cancer, and you can still be out there doing what you love to do, and it’s not a death sentence like it used to be.”

Wilson was diagnosed with breast cancer in March and underwent a double mastectomy in April.

“Last week, with my husband by my side, and with the love and support of family and friends, I underwent a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction for breast cancer after a diagnosis of invasive lobular carcinoma,” she said in an April interview with People magazine. “I am recovering and most importantly, expected to make a full recovery.”

The “Girls” actress took a month-long medical leave of absence from her Broadway play, “Fish in the Dark,” which co-starred Larry David.

Wilson opened up about the arduous month to the New York Times in May, when she returned to “Fish in the Dark,” and was eager to convey that she only discovered her cancer because something didn’t feel right and sought out a second opinion, which is how they ultimately discovered the disease.

“For me, this is about telling people, ‘You can get a second opinion -- your insurance will pay for it, even Obamacare, God bless it, will pay for it,’” she said. “It’s so easy to say, ‘I’m just being paranoid,’ but you should trust your gut.”

The “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” producer, who has been married to Oscar winner Hanks since the 1980s, explained that her illness brought her closer to the “Bridge of Spies” star.

“Who knew it would make you even closer?” Wilson said. “You never know how your spouse is going to react in a situation like this. I was so amazed, so blown away by the care my husband gave me. It was such a normal, intimate time.”
