Richard Gere, Carey Lowell reportedly headed for divorce
Actor Richare Gere and model-actress Carey Lowell are separated and headed for divorce after 11 years of marriage and 18 years together, it was reported Wednesday.
The couple have drifted apart in recent years, an insider told the New York Post’s Page Six, as he digs privacy and she enjoys socializing.
“They have a place in Bedford [N.Y.], and he likes it because it’s quiet and he likes the solitude,” the insider told the paper. “She likes being in North Haven in the limelight.”
Gere, 64, and Lowell, 52, have been apart for some time, a source close to the couple told Page Six, though they were photographed together in January on the Golden Globes red carpet in Beverly Hills.
Lowell told Yahoo Movies last year that she first developed a crush on Gere when she was watching his 1982 film “An Officer and a Gentleman” -- a story she recalled because her crushing caused an argument with her then-boyfriend. The couple appeared together at a 30-year anniversary screening of the film.
Their marriage is the second for Gere — he was famously wed previously to Cindy Crawford — and the third for Lowell. It was unclear when they would file for divorce, according to a Page Six source.
The couple have a 13-year-old son, Homer, who was named after Gere’s father.
