Hmm. That "best new artist" thing really has a short shelf life -- or so Paul McCartney and crew learned Monday night when they were denied entry to a Grammys after-party at the Argyle.

The 18-time Grammy winner, who has on his resume minor honors including 1964's new artist trophy when he was part of a little band called the Beatles and the 1967 album of the year win for the niche release "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," wondered, "How VIP do we gotta get? We need another hit ... " as he, six-time Grammy winner Beck and others in their group were told to talk to the hand outside Tyga's celebration in Hollywood.

For the record

5:58 p.m.: An earlier version of this post said the Argyle is located downtown. The nightclub is in Hollywood.

Generation gap, you are a cruel mistress. Oh wait, Beck won album of the year for 2014. But he is over 40. And at 73, so is McCartney.

The snub was caught on video by TMZ, whose cameras also found Tyga and Bow Wow after the fact. Tyga seemed oblivious to what had gone down, but knew McCartney is a music legend, while a Bow Wow buddy said that if the performer had seen McCartney, he would have made sure he got in the door.

Then Tyga got on social media Tuesday to say, essentially, "Wasn't me."

Tyga was in fact nowhere to be seen at the moment of rejection, which at first glance looks more like a security fail than anything intentional.

McCartney, meanwhile, hoofed it — OK, he got in the back seat of a big black SUV and was driven — over to another party at Hyde on the Sunset Strip. Problem solved.
