Ne-Yo shares baby and engagement news, makes some clarifications about his ex
Singer Ne-Yo is expecting a child with fiancee Crystal Williams.
R&B singer Ne-Yo is engaged and he's having a baby and he's announcing the news himself.
The "So Sick" singer took to Twitter on Monday to deliver the message, which apparently had been fraught with miscommunication as of late.
"Clearing the air..@mscrystalrenay and I are ENGAGED to be married next year. And yes we are expecting. #FromTheHorsesMouth," the 35-year-old showman wrote in the first of a series of tweets.
@mrcrystalrenay is model-actress Crystal Williams, whom he's been been linked to for months.
On Sunday, "The Wiz Live!" star, real name Shaffer Chimere Smith, posted a pic of his fiancee holding a photograph in which he appears to be clutching her belly. The caption read "Surprise!!!!!!!!!!!"
When it wasn't totally clear that they were making a baby announcement, the singer clarified on Twitter, according to The YBF. On both sites he received plenty of ire for moving on so swiftly from previous fiancee Monyetta Shaw, who had her tubes tied after giving birth to his two children back to back. That appears to be what prompted his Monday proclamations.
"I didn't force Mo to tie her tubes. Mutual decision. And the procedure is reversible. #SheCanHaveKids #FromTheHorsesMouth," he continued, adding, "I'm aware I don't have to explain anything. I did it for my fans, my supporters. No BS and lies."
Meanwhile, his fiancee also shared the baby news with a pointed caption.
"'No matter what they say' our Miracle is on the way and I couldn't feel more blessed. You're negativity means nothing to us. We are happy, we've BEEN happy and will always be HAPPY no matter what they say. Thanking The Lord above for those who know my story know what this absolute miracle means to me. #BabySmith #Neyo #CrystalRenay #GodsChild #WasAlwaysInHisTime #BlindFaith thank you all who are happy for our happy [love] " she wrote.
Rumors that the couple were already engaged popped up back in February, when "Photograph" singer Ed Sheeran outed Ne-Yo in an interview. Sheeran said that Ne-Yo told him he learned the entire dance routing to his single "Thinking Out Loud" because he was hoping to perform it at his upcoming nuptials.
Around the same time, the duo was spotted with matching tattoos of the other's initials on their ring fingers.
Ne-Yo had previously engaged to Vh1's "Atlanta Exes" star Shaw for about a year and a half until they split last summer. The couple had been broken up for two months before he took to Instagram to share official word of the split, Shaw told Essence in October.
"We've always had a strong relationship. We were best friends before. We're still friends now and we're co-parenting," Shaw told the mag. "We both thought that we would be together forever so that's why we did that. He definitely got some backlash from a lot of women for the decisions we made. It's unfortunate. No one knew that would happen. I don't bash him because it's not the relationship that we have and it's not who I am. I definitely want the world to know that I forgave him and we're still friends. People make decisions. You move on."
Reps for Ne-Yo did not immediately respond to The Times requests for comment.
