Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp have reportedly split up
Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp have reportedly called it quits after more than three years of dating.
Blame it on Indiana, People says.
That would be where Mellencamp lives, was born and has said he plans to die -- while Ryan, 52, has been a New Yorker since heading out of Hollywood in 2010.
“It was the long distance that ultimately was the cause,” a source told the magazine.
Mellencamp, 62, told Rolling Stone in December that moving to Manhattan to live with Ryan wasn’t going to happen, adding that he was “too sensitive” for that city and its “poor people,” “trash” and “suffering.”
“I’m not leaving Indiana,” the singer said. “I’m going to die here.”
The two started dating in late 2010, right before Mellencamp filed for divorce from Elaine Irwin Mellencamp, his wife of 18 years. Ryan and actor Dennis Quaid divorced in 2001 after she had an affair with “Proof of Life” costar Russell Crowe; she later accused her ex of being unfaithful as well and said her fling with Crowe didn’t cause the split
Ryan’s rep did not respond to The Times’ request for comment about the split with Mellencamp; his publicist said she doesn’t comment on her clients’ personal lives.
The Golden Globe-winning actress, who hasn’t appeared in a film since 2009, will reteam with “You’ve Got Mail” and “Sleepless in Seattle” costar Tom Hanks in “Ithaca,” which she will direct for a 2015 release.
Mellencamp’s musical “Ghost Brothers of Darkland County,” co-written with Stephen King, will be on tour starting in November, though the “Pink Houses” singer will not be part of the live production.
