Marcia Clark talks Chris Darden romance rumors with Ellen DeGeneres

Marcia Clark still isn’t kissing and telling ... and maybe she wasn’t even kissing at all.

In Thursday’s episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” the famed O.J. Simpson murder trial prosecutor addressed the long-running rumors that she and fellow prosecutor Christopher Darden had something going on during the trial of the century two decades ago. But it’s not what you think.

Clark is finding herself back in the spotlight because of FX’s miniseries “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” in which she’s been sympathetically portrayed by “American Horror Story” alum Sarah Paulson. (In another “Ellen” appearance, the actress said the show is giving Clark “the attention that was probably due her at the time but people were believing what was being fed to them: that she was sort of a shrewd, ambitious bitch.”)

Clark, 62, who was weary of the show when it was in development because she “really didn’t want to relive the nightmare of the whole thing,” has had a redemptive narrative arc in the show thus far. Viewers are now privy to the media scrutiny, politicking, personal issues and sexism she faced during the trial. But one story line that still has people fixated is whether or not she and her co-counsel hooked up while they were working together.

“You and Chris Darden: No one really knew you had some kind of romantic [relationship]. It seemed like y’all had a relationship and I don’t know if that went anywhere but it seemed like he was in love with you,” DeGeneres said, capitalizing on the will-they-won’t-they aspect of Tuesday’s episode.

“It didn’t seem that way to me,” Clark replied. “We were really partners. We were trench mates. He wasn’t my second chair ... we were co-counsel and he was my partner and I can’t tell you how important it was to have him there.”

DeGeneres kept smiling while Clark responded then asked her point-blank if they made out, which almost happened in the latest episode.

“We danced,” Clark said, laughing in her seat. And when the host pressed on, Clark added, “We did take a trip to the Bay Area!”

Maybe that’s what they called it back in the day...
