Kylie Jenner addresses pucker-punishing #KylieJennerChallenge
The so-called Kylie Jenner challenge, in which people are attempting to re-create the look of the reality star’s puffy lips, has gotten so out of hand that Jenner herself has weighed in on the blood-vessel-popping beauty booster.
Don’t try this at home, kids. Or adults, for that matter.
Some daring souls have attempted said #KylieJennerChallenge and posted on social media their “before” images, with “after” shots showing the results of sucking on shot glasses, cups and bottles to plump up their pout a la the youngest member of the Kardashian sorority.
The photos and videos are sometimes humorous but mainly gruesome, as evidenced by the self-proclaimed fails to be found under the hashtag #kyliejennerchallengegonewrong. However, people who attempt the maneuver risk issues including scarring and bruising, so the 17-year-old took to Twitter on Tuesday to address the latest beauty craze her family has spawned and endorse alternate enterprises.
“I’m not here to try & encourage people/young girls to look like me or to think this is the way they should look,” the trend-setter wrote, adding: “I want to encourage people/young girls like me to be YOURSELF & not be afraid to experiment w your look.”
Those experiments have resulted in bruises and pretty mangled-up pouts, and professionals are saying it’s a no-no.
“The new trend in trying to DIY lip plumping is quite concerning,” dermatologic surgeon Dendy Engelman told Seventeen. “Not only can significant pain, swelling, and bruising result from these suction techniques, but there is potential risk for scarring and permanent disfigurement with repeated attempts.”
The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star has garnered much attention for her lacquered lips. Although her lips appear enlarged, Jenner has insisted that she’s never had work done on her face and achieves her signature look by using lip liner. (Seriously, there are a ton of tutorials and too-real parodies of the beauty regimen.)
Back in October, Jenner took to Twitter to shut down rumors about her inflated pucker.
“how long are we gonna talk about this lip thing lmao,” she tweeted: adding, “Let’s get a our lives together guys and talk about some important [things]”
The reality star finished off by saying: “Just talk about something new at least. I’m bored.”
Before that, in April 2014, she chalked up her facial transformation to good ol’ hormones after widespread reports insisted that she’d gone under the knife, plumped up her lips and had a nose job.
“These plastic surgery rumors hurt my feelings to be honest and are kinda insulting,” she tweeted at the time, adding, “Just in case anyone forgot.. I’m 16”
