Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting got nude-photo news via Google alert
Sure, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting is a new member of the short hair, don’t care club, but she does care enough to have a Google alert set to her own name.
That’s how the newly pixie-cut star of “The Big Bang Theory” found out she was one of the targets in the massive leak of nude celebrity photos around the beginning of the month.
“Anything that my name pops up, it comes to my phone because I’m, like, obsessed,” she told Jimmy Kimmel on his show Thursday. “I need to know what’s going on.”
The honesty is refreshing, yes? Stars, they are just like us ...
“So every day, every day there’s like 30 ‘Kaley Cuoco nude photos,’” she said. “It’s been going on for years, it’s all these fake ones.”
And yup, there are some truly awful Photoshopped pictures out there of the woman who plays Penny. Not that we looked.
“So then this one came up and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s another fake one.’ And then I started getting emails, like, ‘No, there’s some real ones going around,’ So I looked and I was like, ‘Oh my God, there are some real ones.’”
Instead of publicly threatening legal action, Cuoco-Sweeting cooked up a response with a little help from the guys on the show and the app Nudify, which can pixellate static photos just like it’s done with the video footage on shows like “Dating Naked.” Ordinary folks can blur with the best of them from the comfort of their own phone.
As the cast came together in support, Kunal Nayyar picked out a paparazzi picture of his costar and her husband, Ryan Sweeting, walking on a Mexican beach -- and that’s the blurred shot that made the rounds in the days after the leak.
“What a fun day that was, frolicking with my hubs on the beaches of Mexico! Feels like we forgot something?” the blond wrote on Instagram.
Cuoco-Sweeting’s visible bikini straps peeking out around the “naked” blurring make the image that much better.
“It was just a really bad situation,” she said, “but I took it in my own hands and made a joke about it, because, you know, what are you gonna do?”
There was also a silver lining: When Cuoco-Sweeting notified her family that yes, she was among those targeted and the pictures were real, she was able to clear up some other tabloid stories as well.
“I said, ‘Just so you know, this happened, blah, blah, blah. P.S. I’m not pregnant, P.S.S. I’m not getting a divorce’ -- I was able to get everything out in the email,” she joked. “Which is great.”
