Justin Bieber expresses feelings in video apology after ‘Ellen’ spot

Justin Bieber has apologized for, well, being Justin Bieber.

The “Beauty & the Beat” singer posted a video confession (note: some profanity) online late Wednesday night apologizing for his erratic behavior in recent months, which includes peeing in public, an arrest, drug use and numerous other eyebrow-raising incidents we’ve lovingly come to know as “Bieber’s blunders.”

Though the 20-year-old YouTube sensation doesn’t mention those acts specifically, he does say that he knows he’s come off “conceited” and “arrogant,” but that he isn’t really who he “was pretending to be.”

The video apology came after the heavily tattooed pop star taped an appearance for “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Wednesday, which reportedly tanked, TMZ said. The Biebs addresses that in the recording.

Bieber, the on-off love interest of Disney alum Selena Gomez, even tweeted about the talk show appearance, seemingly tempering viewers about his tense demeanor and perhaps getting ahead of the would-be panned spot.

“Good seeing u today @TheEllenShow. Happy birthday! Sorry I was so nervous,” he tweeted.

He and DeGeneres discussed his nerves on the show too, chalking it up to being an extroverted performer but an introverted person.

“I think I was nervous because of just, I was afraid of what people are thinking about me right now,” Bieber elaborates in the video. “It’s been a minute since I’ve been on a public appearance. I didn’t want to come off arrogant and conceited -- basically how I’ve been acting [over] the past year, year-and-a-half.”

“I’m not who I was pretending to be. Why I say ‘pretending’ is, often we pretend to be something we’re not as a cover-up of what we’re truly feeling inside. There was a lot of feelings going on in there.”

The Calvin Klein model went on to say that growing up in the public eye and in the music industry has been difficult and that “growing up in general is hard.”

“I just felt awkward up there. I felt like people we judging me,” he continued. “And I really want people to know how much I care, how much I care about people and how I’m not that person to say ‘I don’t give a ... .’ I’m not that kid. I’m a person who genuinely cares and although what’s happened in the the past has happened, I just want to make the best impression on people and be kind and loving and gentle and soft -- and although people can call me a softie, that’s how my mom raised me.”

The video cuts off after that.

Incidentally, the always amiable DeGeneres also asks viewers to “be kind” during her show -- perhaps that may be what prompted Bieber’s transformation?

The talk show host replied to his apology tweet saying: “You were perfect. Thanks for surprising me!”

The Canadian crooner’s timing couldn’t be more confusing, given that he’s already offered himself up for a Comedy Central roast for his 21st birthday.
