Meet Jennifer Lawrence, who is awkward at sex — um, sex scenes
Jennifer Lawrence has had sex for the first time.
Well, the first time on film. For a movie. With Chris Pratt. So, not really "sex," but "sex scene." Yup, that first sentence was intentionally completely misleading.
Of course, it's Jennifer Lawrence, so she has some funny things to say about it — like proclaiming, "I'm a predatorrrrrr!" And the "Joy" star, whose set-in-space flick "Passengers" costars Pratt and is due out in December 2016, conveniently swung by Seth Meyers' show on Tuesday to elaborate on those intimate moments at work.
"I was so nervous," Lawrence said, "'cause I was, like, paranoid, about coming across as a predator, for one. ... With sex scenes, you don't know what to do. You're like, 'Is it too — is it enough?' Is it — or your worst nightmare, is it too much? Are they gonna be like, 'Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!' ... You don't know that to do!"
"'Cut, cut, cut, cut!,'" Meyers chimed in.
"Like, 'JENNIFER! WHOA!,'" she said.
"Kill the lights!," the host hollered. "'Kill the lights!"
"I'd be like, 'Oh my God, I'm sorry!'" the actress added by way of explanation. "'I just, I don't know, acting?'"
Even sex-scening with someone as easygoing as Pratt is awkward, Lawrence said, prompting Meyer to ask her if she and her costar had discussed any strategy in advance. Um, she said, not exactly.
"It's so uncomfortable. Am I gonna [ask], 'You gonna hump me once? You gonna get on top?' You don't talk about it at all, and that makes it so much more uncomfortable," she said.
Meyers offered his opinion: "I always, when anyone asks me, 'Are you gonna hump me once,'" my answer is yes. ... I say definitely once, and then we'll see where it goes."
No wonder she had a crush on Meyers to the point where she was going to give him her number back in January 2013, when she was hosting "Saturday Night Live" and he was still anchoring the show's "Weekend Update" segment.
Lawrence was sure he was going to ask her out, she said, and then she decided she was going to ask him out. "I created the romance in my head, because I'm delusional," she quipped.
"I'm getting a costume-fitting and I had this whole plan, I was going to ask you out," she told Meyers. "Thank God, I talked to the wardrobe lady about it, 'I'm gonna ask Seth Meyers out, I'm gonna give him my number,'" and she was like, 'Honey, he's engaged.' I was like, 'COOL. GOOD TALK.'" Ah, the humiliation.
(Meyers, incidentally, married Alexi Ashe that September.)
Tuesday's confab was also the sit-down where Lawrence talked about why she wants Amy Schumer to win the Golden Globe for best actress in a motion picture, comedy or drama, for which they're both nominated. The "Joy" star says her buddy's "Trainwreck" performance is the year's best. And no, she does not think Schumer wants the same for her.
However, it was over on Stephen Colbert's show Monday night that Lawrence said the thing that apparently hurt Lindsay Lohan's sister Ali's feelings. Blink and you'll miss it there at the end. Some people are so sensitive.
