Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux pull off a surprise wedding
Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are married, and when it finally happened for real, nobody really saw it coming.
Though the couple’s reps aren’t talking, the wedding has been confirmed by a number of entertainment news outlets.
An initial report that a surprise birthday party for Theroux was actually a wedding in disguise came Thursday via TMZ, which had paparazzi photos that included a shot of a cake with a puppet bride and groom on top as well as an image of a member of the clergy showing up at their Bel-Air home Wednesday, Bible in hand.
“Jen and Justin wanted to surprise guests, and guests were certainly surprised,” a source told People.
An aerial shot of their backyard, posted by TMZ, shows a temporary wooden floor that appears to have covered the pool, a bar, a casual seating area and tables set formally for dinner with little ottomans for seats. Twinkle lights were woven up into a large tree, and candles illuminated the tables.
The website said staffers’ cellphones were confiscated all week in the interest of keeping things secret, and nobody was allowed to park near the property.
Guests invited by Aniston, 46, and Theroux, 43, included Howard Stern, Jason Bateman, Lisa Kudrow, Sia, Samantha Ronson, Chelsea Handler, and John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, E! News reported. Us Weekly added Ellen DeGeneres, Lake Bell, Scott Campbell and Terry Richardson to that list.
According to Us sources, the newlyweds jetted off to their honeymoon Thursday morning out of Van Nuys Airport. No destination was named.
If it feels like the wedding already happened a while ago, thank the tabloid media, which has had the couple married or about to marry dozens of times since they started dating — even before he proposed to her on his birthday in 2012 engagement.
Gossip Cop has an amusing roundup of false reports, including some of the offending magazine covers.
Our particular favorite was the one where Aniston and Angelina Jolie were planning dueling weddings. Of course, they also supposedly split up a lot as well.
This is, of course, a second wedding for Aniston, who was previously married to Brad Pitt. It’s Theroux’s first time saying “I do.”
