Gisele Bundchen: She and Tom Brady have ‘gone through a few tough times’

Gisele Bundchen — all bubbly and candid — opened up about her life and marriage on “CBS This Morning” on Tuesday.

The supermodel, who announced her retirement from the runway in April, sat down with Charlie Rose to talk about her marriage to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and how they navigated their scandal-tainted courtship and his recent Deflategate debacle.

The former Victoria’s Secret Angel hit the airwaves to promote her $700 limited-edition coffee table book, which already sold out despite its hefty price tag. But that’s OK: Bundchen is donating all proceeds from the limited edition to charity, and she and German publishing house Taschen will soon release a $69.99 version.

During her sit-down, Bundchen praised her husband while also sharing that their marriage has gone through its share of “tough times.”

“He’s kind. ... He’s a good man,” the 35-year-old said. “I would say he’s much more competitive than me. I would say I’m much more of a collaborative person because in my job it’s about collaboration. [As a quarterback,] he’s kind of the boss in some ways, he has to dictate.”

The high-earning Brazilian beauty began dating Brady in late 2006 shortly after he split from actress Bridget Moynahan, his girlfriend of three years. But soon after their split, Moynahan confirmed that she was pregnant with his child. Bundchen said the revelation had her rethinking her new romance.

“It was a challenging thing because here I am, you know, thinking I’m dating this guy. We met, we started dating and everything is great, and then this happens, right? So I felt like I didn’t know what to do,” she said. “It was kind of one of those moments of like, ‘Do I just like run away?’ Now eight years later, I couldn’t have asked for a sweeter bonus child.”

Moynahan, of “Blue Bloods fame,” gave birth to son John in August 2007, and Bundchen and Brady went on to wed in 2009. The couple later welcomed a son and a daughter but have often included John in their nuclear family.

“I think we’ve been through a few tough times together,” she said after Rose asked her how the family had handled Brady’s Deflategate scandal over the summer. “I think that’s when you know who are your friends and who loves you. My father always says the quality of your life depends on the quality of your relationships, and I think, no matter how challenging it was, we’ve always been supportive of one another.

“And I think that’s the most important thing you can have in life, you know? A support system and love.”

The brouhaha not only rocked the NFL last spring, but also gave rise to rumors of marital woes for the comely couple — rumors that were shut down by the embattled quarterback himself in September after a judge tossed out his four-game suspension.

“We’re in a great place,” the 38-year-old said on a Boston radio show. “I’ll just say that.”

“I’m a lucky man,” he continued, before doling out praise for Bundchen. “I’ve been very blessed with support from my family and certainly her. There’s no bigger supporter than I have than her and vice versa. I’ve been very blessed to have an incredible relationship with my life partner. I don’t think anything would ever get in the way of that.”
