Spice Girl Geri Halliwell -- that’s Ginger -- engaged to Formula 1 boss
Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell just spiced up her life with an engagement.
The British pop star went the old-fashioned route, sharing the news that she and Formula 1 racer Christian Horner were affianced in a Tuesday newspaper announcement.
The small Times of London notice read (via People): “The engagement is announced between Christian, son of Mr and Mrs G.M. Horner and Geraldine, daughter of the late Mr L.F. Halliwell and Mrs A. Parkinson.”
The 42-year-old singer also confirmed the news on Twitter on Tuesday.
“Christian and I are delighted to announce that we are engaged! We’re both very happy,” she wrote, adding, “Thanks for all your lovely wishes!”
The traditional announcement comes on the heels of “Sherlock” star Benedict Cumberbatch’s engagement news from last week.
It’s the first marriage for Ginger Spice, who has an 8-year-old daughter named Bluebell Madonna with her ex, director Sacha Gervasi. Her former bandmates Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) are Bluebell’s godmothers.
The singer-turned-designer was previously engaged to Italian yacht company owner Fabrizio Politi in 2009, People reported.
Horner, 40, the principal of the Infiniti Red Bull team, has been linked to Halliwell since earlier this year but the pair is said to have been friends since 2009, the Daily Mail reported. The U.K. tabloid also caught a glimpse of the singer’s classic engagement ring.
Apparently, the Formula 1 boss is also quite chivalrous, bearing the “OBE” -- Order of the British Empire -- suffix in his name. He was married once before and has a 1-year-old daughter named Olivia.
