Elizabeth Berkley’s jump from ‘SBTB’ to ‘Showgirls’ explained in a photo
Elizabeth Berkley has pin-pointed her transformation from "Saved By the Bell" egghead Jessie Spano to "Showgirls'"campy stripper Nomi Malone.
She blames those horrid ankle-length cheerleading skirts of Jessie's feminist devising -- at least that's how Berkley jocularly put it on Tuesday when the "Showgirls" alum shared a photo of the culprit ensembles on Instagram.
She and costars Lark Voorhies and Tiffani Thiessen donned the "ladylike" skirts in an episode of the popular 1990s sitcom and Berkley offered this explanation:
"Perhaps this was the moment that pushed it over the edge and led me to do #showgirls ?!" she quipped, adding "#life #oy #whatareyougonnado #gottalaugh cc: my love @tathiessen"
Berkley, now 42, infamously starred in the widely-panned stripper film in 1995, two years after "Saved By the Bell" wrapped.
Her cat-walk down memory lane comes on the heels of last week's mini-"Saved By the Bell" reunion on "The Tonight Show."
Host Jimmy Fallon finally reunited five of the principle stars -- Berkley, Thiessen, Mark-Paul Goselaar, Mario Lopez and Dennis Haskins for a Bayside rendezvous nearly three decades after the wholesome NBC sitcom debuted. Goselaar, who now stars in "Franklin & Bash" was sure to mention the box office blunder in the clip. (And Jessie's signature "I'm so excited, I'm so scared" line also made it into the sketch.)
The virtually age-defying gang posted several behind-the-scenes snapshots of the sketch on Instagram too.
"Best. Timeout. Ever. Thank you @jimmyfallon for throwing it waaaay back @mariolopezextra @tathiessen @mariolopezextra #Sbtb #tbt to yesterday..#feelslikeyesterday oh wait....!!!!!"
She then posted another snap with her and her onscreen love, Lopez, who played wrestling and football star A.C. Slater.
"No matter how much time goes by, this connection is lasting ...you can't #fake magic. Life can have ups and downs, but I love that this childhood memory made you guys smile-- grateful for everyone's support and joy..it's the best feeling to connect on something meant for nothing but FUN.... #slater #jessie #sbtb @mariolopezextra"
