He’s ‘sweet, smart & sculpted!’: Guess who People just named its ‘Sexiest Man Alive’
Dwayne Johnson no longer has to stare into the mirrors at his gym, poring over his reflection, and ask himself: “Am I sexy?”
People just confirmed it Tuesday, declaring Johnson 2016’s “Sexiest Man Alive.” With the tagline, “He’s sweet, smart & sculpted!” the magazine splashed his image on the cover of its annual special issue.
With the award, the man formerly known as “The Rock” joins an elite club of beautiful men including
Joining Johnson on this year’s list are England’s Prince Harry, Keegan-Michael Key (“Key and Peele”), John Krasinski (“The Office”), rapper Drake, Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot”), singer Nick Jonas, Jay Hernandez (“Suicide Squad”),
People has not yet released the names of the 135 other men included on the 2016 list.
Johnson, 44, has made a career of reinvention, parlaying his initial fame as a professional wrestler into a successful acting career.
In addition to his HBO series “Ballers,” Johnson has starred in films such as those in the “Fast and the Furious” franchise, Disney’s upcoming animated release “Moana” and the recent comedy “Central Intelligence.”
"I thought, ‘Wow, we’ve pretty much reached the pinnacle,’" Johnson told People, reacting to his new title. "I’m not quite too sure where we go from here. I’ve done it all. This is it.”
The actor also told People about his troubled times as a teenager growing up in Hawaii.
“I was doing a lot of things that I shouldn’t have. I was getting arrested multiple times,” Johnson said, “but at the same time, always very respectful to my teachers and elders. I was unsure of who I was and who I wanted to be”
But look at him now: Johnson is having a pretty good year. In addition to his sexy accolades, Forbes declared Johnson the highest paid actor in Hollywood, with the star earning $64.5 million between June 2015 and 2016.
As for what makes him sexy, Johnson told People he suspected it was a mixture of confidence and comedy.
“I think with a lot of my fans, I’ve gotten to a very, very cool place where there’s a direct line between the man they know off-screen and the man they see on-screen,” Johnson said.
Ellen DeGeneres made the official announcement on Tuesday’s episode of “The Ellen Show.”
“Moana,” in which Johnson voices the Hawaiian demigod Maui, opens in theaters on Nov. 23.
