Dustin Diamond, Screech from ‘Saved by the Bell,’ gets 4 months in jail for bar brawl
Dustin Diamond — who played Screech, the awkward but lovable anti-heartthrob in the 1990s sitcom “Saved by the Bell” — has been sentenced to four months in jail for a Wisconsin bar fight during which he stabbed a man.
The judge also sentenced Diamond to 15 months of probation, according to the Ozaukee County Circuit Court clerk’s office.
Diamond has been ordered to stay away from the victim and from the bar in Port Washington, Wis., where the Christmas Day tussle occurred. He also must maintain “absolute sobriety” and refrain from all controlled substances until his probation ends, the clerk’s office said.
Diamond, 38, has been ordered to report to jail Sunday evening, the clerk’s office said. He is eligible to apply for work release when necessary.
In May, Diamond was convicted of two misdemeanors stemming from the fight: carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct, the Associated Press reported. He was cleared of a felony charge.
During the trial, the AP reported, Diamond told jurors that he had taken a knife out during the fight to scare bar patrons, including a woman he said had punched his girlfriend, but that he stabbed a man during the brawl only by accident. Witnesses testified that Diamond’s girlfriend, Amanda Schutz, had initiated the fight.
Schutz was convicted of disorderly conduct and ordered to pay restitution and court fees, the court said.
Diamond’s attorney did not respond to requests for comment.
Other “Saved by the Bell” alumni have had happier news to share lately.
Lark Voorhies, who played wealthy fashionista Lisa Turtle, got married in April, tying the knot with beau Jimmy Green at a small ceremony in Las Vegas.
Tiffani Thiessen, who played the alluring Kelly Kapowski, is pregnant with her second child. It’s a boy — she posted photos of a blue-themed baby shower a couple of weeks ago.
Mark-Paul Gosselaar, “Saved by the Bell’s” main man Zack Morris, welcomed his fourth child in February.
And Jimmy Fallon got most of the cast together on the “Tonight Show” earlier this year for a Bayside High reunion sketch.
