‘Downton Abbey’ gets Diddy-fueled makeover in Funny or Die spoof
Diddy’s rather confusing Twitter announcement that he’ll be appearing as a series regular on the wildly popular British aristocracy drama “Downton Abbey” has manifested itself as a mediocre Funny or Die video.
And aren’t we all a little relieved? We’re guessing the Dowager Countess is.
The music mogul, whose real name is Sean Combs, teased about his casting on Twitter for days, even changing his background image to the aristocratic logo and profile photo to Highclere Castle, where the fictional Downton is shot.

“I have to admit that Downton Abbey is one of my favorite shows- and thats why Im so excited today,” he wrote Wednesday, finally adding.”MY BIG NEWS: So happy to announce that Im a series regular on DOWNTON ABBEY-my favorite show+i’ll be debuting a sneak peek tonight 12am PST!”
But PBS and Masterpiece refuted the claims, saying they simply weren’t true. But Diddy’s enthusiasm for his involvement left many wondering what his midnight sneak peek would bring and what it could actually mean to have the American producer/rapper/businessman ruffle the immaculate feathers of the beloved highbrow series.
Enter Funny Or Die and “Downton Diddy.”
“This is Sean Combs coming to you live from my office with some very very exciting news. It’s about my favorite show of all time Downtown Abbey,” he said at the beginning of the five-minute clip, repeatedly mispronouncing the show’s title. “Yes, I’m an Abbey-head! Proudly, yes, yes, yes!”
The series broadcasts in the U.S. on PBS affiliates and recently announced its casting of Gary Carr as its first black character. He’ll appear in the Emmy-winning costume drama’s fourth season, which airs in the U.S. on Jan. 14.

“The only problem with this is I already broke down that barrier. I’m making the announcement: I’m the first black cast member on ... Downton Abbey and I’ve got the scenes to prove it.”
And so, Diddy makes his debut as Lord Wolcott, the new owner of the struggling “Downtown” Abbey, who simply superimposes himself on pre-existing scenes and story lines from the show’s three seasons.
Wolcott comments on the seemingly mundane interactions of the noble Crawley family and their servants, gets quasi-intimate with the show’s gay footman-turned-butler Thomas, hosts the estate’s first-ever white party, gets in a shootout in World War I, shouts from the castle’s “delightful” rooftop, plays cricket, foils pivotal scenes with sound and unsound advice, only to turn out to be an imposter the whole time. But the best part is when he has “libations” with Maggie Smith and Penelope Wilton, only to have the beverage of choice be Ciroc, the vodka he touts in real life.

Diddy got some love from famous fans on Twitter including musicians Swizz Beatz and Janelle Monae, actor-comedian Ken Jeong, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, Kardashian momager Kris Jenner and the official “Downton Abbey” Twitter account.
“It seems there is no end to the willing volunteers for a role in #Downton Abbey!” the Downton tweet said.
Indeed.
