Rapper DMX doing six months in jail over $400,000 in unpaid child support
DMX is in an upstate New York jail after being sentenced Tuesday to six months behind bars over unpaid child support.
The rapper, real name Earl Simmons, had been ordered by a family court to pay $400,000 to ex-wife Tashera Simmons, the mother of four of his children, according to the Associated Press.
The 44-year-old was arrested June 26 for what authorities called several “issues outstanding” -- including alleged failure to pay child support -- right before he was to perform at Radio City Music Hall with Shabba Ranks and the Lox. He made bail the next day, only to be arrested again on a warrant for bail-jumping in another county, the New York Daily News reported.
He’d been accused of robbing a man at a Newark, N.J., gas station in early April, but according to E! News those charges were dropped when the man couldn’t make an ID on surveillance video.
DMX is at the Erie County Holding Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
