‘Bad Chad’ Johnson of ‘The Bachelorette’ explains himself to Jimmy Kimmel

In what seems like an attempt to mitigate the damage done by his stint on “The Bachelorette,” recently eliminated bachelor Chad Johnson, also known as “Bad Chad,” appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Monday night after his elimination from the show.

Johnson had piqued the Internet’s interest with his quick temper and bizarre non sequiturs on ABC’s hit dating reality show, though sparked some concern as the Realtor from Tulsa, Okla., continued to exhibit potentially violent behavior, threaten fellow contestants and even getting involved in a scuffle with another bachelor.

But Johnson was all laughs Monday night as he Skyped in to Kimmel’s show (his pet dog Pumpkin prominently featured in the background, completely disinterested in her owner’s interview) to assure the late night host that he wasn’t actually a bad guy, that he just liked to say bad things.

“In the moment you’ll say things, do things. My thing is, sometimes I say things to get the result that I want,” Johnson tells Kimmel, describing basic conversation and human interactions.

Kimmel also showed Johnson footage from that evening’s episode, that Johnson had yet to watch, in which all of the remaining contestants threw a raucous party celebrating his elimination.

Jimmy Kimmel chats with the man who earned the nickname “Bad Chad” on this season of “The Bachelorette” and shows him footage of the men on the show reacting to his elimination.

Johnson told Kimmel that whoever you are is “amplified  about a million times” on the show.

“So what you did is pretended to be a despicable jerk so that everyone would think you were a despicable jerk and now everyone thinks you’re a despicable jerk,” Kimmel pointed out to Johnson before adding, “It’s a bad plan, Chad.”

Chad Johnson talks about his interactions with the other men on “The Bachelorette” and explains that he was just pretending to be crazy to drive the other guys away from him.

Bad plan though it may be, it doesn’t seem to be fazing Johnson’s prospects whatsoever, as the volatile bachelor will also appear on the next season of “Bachelor in Paradise,” proving that apparently sometimes bad behavior does pay off.

Not only that, but it appears that Johnson’s Instagram trolling of his former competitors from the show may have led him to a love connection, as he revealed that the photo he shared recently of himself smooching fellow contestant Robby Hayes’ ex-girlfriend Hope Higginbotham (who accused Hayes of dumping her in order to join this season of “The Bachelorette”) could in fact lead to something more.

“I don’t want to make any judgments or say where it’s going to go,” Johnson told Kimmel, shrugging.

Other fascinating tidbits from Johnson’s time with Kimmel include:

  • He and Canadian Daniel, his BFF on the show, text each other every day.
  • His business as a Realtor is booming thanks to his rising reality stardom.
  • He wouldn’t actually hurt Jordan Rodgers after the show, as he threatened. He has “people” for that. Swell.

Until we see Johnson again on “Bachelor in Paradise,” please keep his memory alive by watching this clip of him eating meat daily.

"The Bachelorette" Season 12 contestant Chad Johnson is looking to fall in love with JoJo Fletcher, but the other men think he may just be here for the free food.

The choice is yours.
