Casey Kasem’s body still not buried a month after his death

A month after Casey Kasem’s death, the radio and voiceover icon’s body remains in a mortuary in Tacoma, Wash., a rep for daughter Kerri Kasem confirmed Wednesday.

Casey Kasem died June 15 after a months-long battle over access to him and control of his end-of-life medical care played out between his second wife, Jean Kasem, and the three children from his first marriage.

The “American Top 40” host, who died at 82, had suffered from Lewy body dementia. He passed away days after a judge upheld Kasem’s health directive and ruled that his hydration and nutrition could be stopped.

A conflict over his burial is unlikely. Kerri, Mike and Julie Kasem “didn’t want to play any games,” rep Danny Deraney said, though they hope their father will eventually be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.

Though Kerri Kasem had medical conservatorship of her father at the end, Jean Kasem has authority over his remains.

The three siblings held a memorial for their father the weekend after his death, with daughter Julie Kasem telling People at the time that having “all of his family, friends and coworkers come together to remember and pay tribute to him was beautiful.”

Kerri, Mike and Julie Kasem “are at peace with that,” Deraney said Wednesday.

Jean Kasem and her daughter with Casey, Liberty Kasem, reportedly did not attend the memorial. A lawyer for Jean Kasem did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Los Angeles Times.
