Brad Pitt files for joint custody of his six children with Angelina Jolie
The Hollywood uncoupling of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie could get even more complicated. Pitt has filed for joint custody of his six children with Jolie.
The 52-year-old actor responded to Jolie’s Sept. 19 divorce petition on Friday, citing irreconcilable differences, according to documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court. He is also requesting joint legal and physical custody of Maddox Jolie-Pitt, 15, Pax Jolie-Pitt, 12, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, 11, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, 10, and twins Knox Jolie-Pitt and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, 8.
In her September filing, Jolie requested sole physical custody of the children, indicating she would give Pitt visitation rights.
“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids,” Pitt said in a statement at the time.
A couple of weeks later, Jolie and Pitt agreed to a temporary, three-week custody agreement. A source told The Times on Sept. 30 the couple had agreed to individual counseling, and Pitt said he would submit to drug and alcohol testing.
Pitt’s new custody request comes as the actor is still under investigation by the Department of Children and Family Services for an alleged altercation with his son on a private plane. The spat, which sources told the paper “was physical but didn’t involve punching or hitting,” occurred between Maddox and Pitt on a flight from France to L.A.
Jolie, 41, and Pitt wed at their chateau in France in August 2014 following a two-year engagement. The actor is set to embark on a press tour later this month to promote his new romantic drama, “Allied,” which co-stars Marion Cotillard and opens Nov. 23.
