Blake Lively on motherhood, aging, Serena’s ‘compromising’ image problem

Blake Lively is dishing on being a new mom, the notion of agelessness and what she really thought of her “Gossip Girl” alter ego.

The blond stunner, who stars in the forthcoming “The Age of Adaline,” discussed her latest endeavors in the May issue of Allure --- admitting that breast-feeding her new daughter James has become “a full-time job.”

“I’m, like, driving down the road, pumping,” she said.

Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds welcomed the baby in December and held off on releasing details. After much speculation, the comely duo confirmed their daughter’s traditionally masculine name in March, saying they wanted to give her a modicum of privacy before catapulting her into the public domain.

“It’s her life,” Lively explained. “She should have her privacy until she chooses not to have her privacy, just as I got to choose and my husband got to choose.”

The 27-year-old’s priorities and perceptions of youth have been significantly influenced as she’s become a mom and played an ageless woman in “Adaline.”

“People are obsessed with beauty and youth and with looking and feeling young forever,” she said. “But look at a woman who is granted that: She’s trapped, because it’s tragic to be young forever ... And also, having a child makes you realize that we pass on for a reason. You think, I have to go, because it makes room for you.”

As for “it” girl Serena van der Woodsen, the character that launched Lively to stardom, the “Gossip Girl” alum said playing the flighty socialite was “personally compromising.” She didn’t love the message that was sent to young girls.

“People loved it, but it always felt a little personally compromising — you want to be putting a better message out there,” she said (via People). “I would not be proud to be the person who gave someone the cocaine that made them overdose and then shot someone and slept with someone else’s boyfriend.”

After the popular CW series wrapped its sixth season in 2012, Lively went on hiatus from acting and launched her lifestyle website, Preserve, so she could “reset” her life and take “control” of her future as well as that of her “babies.”

Preserve is also where Lively announced in October 2014 that she was pregnant, after concealing her baby bump in baggy clothes for seven months. She crashed the fledgling site in the process.

“That was my way of owning that moment,” Lively said, explaining that she “can’t” announce her news in the vein of someone like Beyonce, who flashed her baby bump onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2011.

“But it was important for us. It was a struggle, because we want to keep our privacy, but we also don’t want our lives to be exploited by other people. So we did it simply; it was a quiet way, an elegant way.”
