Gold Standard: Join ‘The Bridge’s’ Demian Bichir, Diane Kruger for a chat Thursday

Diane Kruger and Demian Bichir, stars of FX’s dark drama “The Bridge,” will be stopping by The Times on Thursday at 11 a.m. PDT to talk about their intriguing show, which will return for its second season in July.

“The Bridge” began as a serial killer mystery being investigated by El Paso detective Sonya Cross (Kruger) and Chihuahua state policeman Marco Ruiz (Bichir). Two corpses were dropped on the Bridge of the Americas, which connects El Paso to Juárez, with half of one body in the U.S. and half of the other in Mexico, necessitating a cooperative effort.

Times television critic Robert Lloyd laid out the dynamic between the detectives in his review of the show’s first three episodes:

“He’s fire, she’s ice; she’s young, he’s not so young; he’s rumpled, she’s pressed; she goes by the book, where as a good cop in a wicked town, he’s used to improvising. He’s a people person, with a wife and kids, who brings flowers and shares pastries. She’s an island, except for superior officer Lt. Hank Wade (Ted Levine) — she panics when he mentions retirement — and the stranger she picks up at a bar for some meaningless, practical sex.”
