Golden Globes 2015: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler let ‘Interview’ jokes fly

According to Golden Globes co-host Tina Fey, North Korea’s review of the Sony comedy “The Interview” “wasn’t even the worst review the movie got.”

In their opening for the 72nd awards show, Fey and co-host Amy Poehler didn’t shy away from joking about the Sony hacking and the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg film that made headlines in 2014.

Fey kicked off the show by calling the room of celebrities “minimally talented spoiled brats,” referencing one of the leaked emails between Sony co-chairwoman Amy Pascal and producer Scott Rudin.

The film, which stars Rogen and James Franco, is about a fictional plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Though it was originally intended as a wide-release film, Sony changed those plans on Dec. 17 after hackers threatened violence against movie theaters, and most exhibitors declined to screen the film.

Amid criticism from President Barack Obama, 1st Amendment activists and moviegoers, Sony decided it would roll out the film to a limited number of theaters on Christmas Day and on many video-on-demand platforms.

Calling the Sony hacking “the biggest story in Hollywood this year,” Poehler joked that the threatened attack over “The Interview” forced “us all to pretend we wanted to see it.”

Later, Fey and Poehler introduced a new “member” of Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. (played by Margaret Cho), a woman from North Korea holding a magazine called “Movies Wow!”

In the gag, the latest “member” pointed to Meryl Streep to take a photo with her and the magazine. Michael Keaton took the photo as Benedict Cumberbatch photobombed.

“We got a lot of weird emails that can’t get out,” Fey joked. “Crisis averted.”
