Morning Fix: ‘Guardians’ to rule the galaxy. Time Warner Cable has Dodger blues.

The Skinny: This is my last Morning Fix. It’s been my pleasure to bring you the headlines with a mix of humor thrown in for the last five years. I want to thank all my loyal readers and the fine copy desk at the Los Angeles Times for all their hard work on my behalf. And now for one final time, today’s headlines include the weekend box office preview and the latest on the never-ending Dodger TV story. Also, the cast of “The Big Bang Theory” still isn’t back to work.

Daily Dose: Next Wednesday, 21st Century Fox and Time Warner have calls with Wall Street analysts to discuss earnings. It will be the first time executives from the companies will face extensive questions regarding Fox’s unsolicited offer for Time Warner. There has been some speculation that Fox might make a sweetened offer for Time Warner before their next earnings release but now that is seeming less likely. Either way, it should be interesting.

Galaxy quest. “Guardians of the Galaxy,” the latest Marvel adventure, is projected to take in north of $70 million this weekend. That should be more than enough to dominate the box office and push last week’s champ, “Lucy,” down to second place. The only other major movie opening is “Get On Up,” a James Brown biopic that is expected to dance for about $14 million. Dodger blues. Time Warner Cable’s woes trying to distribute the Dodger-owned channel SportsNet LA to other area pay-TV providers is starting to affect the bottom line. The company lowered its revenue and operating income projections for the year because it does not expect to get distribution agreements done with DirecTV and other area pay-TV providers. DirecTV said it was open for some sort of mediation to try to come to terms on an agreement but Chief Executive Mike White added he thinks the Dodgers need to be involved in any such talks. Firing blanks. Production on the next season of the the CBS hit “The Big Bang Theory” has been delayed as Warner Bros., which makes the show, is yet to come to terms on new contracts with the cast. The show’s season debut is still more than two months away so no one is hitting the panic button yet. More from the Associated Press.

Discovering the world. Despite all the talk of potential consolidation among programmers including 21st Century Fox’s interest in buying Time Warner, Discovery Communications Chief David Zaslav doesn’t seem to think he needs to rush out and get bigger in the U.S. The company has been aggressive in overseas acquisitions and partnerships and will continue to focus its efforts there. Always room for improvement. Now that another crazy Comic-Con is done Variety looks at ways to make the fan fest run a little smoother. I’ve never been to a Comic-Con and honestly it’s not one of my big regrets in life.
