TV Academy to roll out online voting for Emmy Awards
With more and more people watching television online, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences figures it’s time to move the Emmy Award voting process there too.
Starting in 2014, online voting will be used for the first round of Emmy voting, which decides nominees across all categories. The following year, all rounds will be eligible for online voting.

“We refine the Emmy Awards process every year, and this migration to an all-digital, online voting procedure will ensure that voting is easy, private and secure,” said Bruce Rosenblum, chairman of the Academy. “This is all part of our ongoing mission to activate greater member engagement, to inspire and help our members develop their professional potential, and to bring new and long-established voices within the television community together to continue to chart a bold path for our industry.”
The Academy said a recent survey revealed that 70% of its members would prefer to vote online rather than through paper ballots. The new process will also make tabulating votes easier. There are more than 16,000 Academy members who take part in the voting.
