Calendar: Walt Disney Concert Hall’s 10th anniversary concerts
The Los Angeles Philharmonic kicks off its celebration of Walt Disney Concert Hall’s 10th anniversary with three free community concerts: Wednesday at City of Hope in Duarte, Thursday at Wilshire United Methodist Church in Los Angeles and Saturday at Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach.
On Sept. 29, the orchestra heads to Disney Hall for a free 4 p.m. concert, with music director Gustavo Dudamel conducting and a live simulcast across the street on a giant screen at Grand Park.
The season begins with a gala on Sept. 30 and includes an anniversary concert on Oct. 23, the actual date of Disney Hall’s 2003 opening.

Sept. 30, Opening Night Gala
Dudamel conducts a program chosen to help tell the story of Disney Hall, with guest soloist Yo-Yo Ma (cello) and video installations by director Netia Jones.
Oct. 3-6
Soloists Yefim Bronfman (piano) and Pedro Carneiro (percussion) join Dudamel for Schubert, Tchaikovsky and a world premiere.
Oct. 10-13
A mostly Beethoven program, with Dudamel conducting, features the Los Angeles Master Chorale and pianist Leif Ove Andsnes.
Oct. 18-20
L.A. Phil conductor laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts a program of Debussy, Lindberg and Bartók with soloist Anssi Karttunen (cello) and the women of the Master Chorale.

Oct. 23, the Anniversary Concert
Salonen conducts the world premiere of Frank Zappa’s complete “200 Motels” in a Green Umbrella concert by the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group, with the Master Chorale.
Oct. 25-27
Salonen conducts the orchestra in a program of Ives, Sibelius and his own Violin Concerto played by soloist Leila Josefowicz.
Nov. 2 and 9
A program called “Building Music” is aimed for children and families.
Nov. 12
Portuguese fado singer Mariza, who performed in the first Disney Hall season, returns.
Feb. 9, 2014
A concert by the L.A. Phil’s Creative Chair for Jazz artists, Herbie Hancock, Dianne Reeves and Christian McBride.
