Orlando Bloom, Condola Rashad reprising ‘Romeo and Juliet’ at Disney Hall

If you missed Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad in their Broadway outing last year in “Romeo and Juliet,” and you won’t be able to catch the upcoming, timed-for-Valentine’s-Day broadcasts of the same stage production to cinemas across the nation, here’s a third opportunity to catch the comely actors playing Shakespeare’s tragic lovers.

Bloom and Rashad will join Robert Sean Leonard in a concert with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra at Walt Disney Concert Hall that will include selections from Shakespeare plays that inspired Tchaikovsky. Bloom and Rashad will perform passages from “Romeo and Juliet,” while Leonard will act scenes from “Hamlet.” Actor Joe Morton will play Prospero in selections from “The Tempest.”

The concert, set for Feb. 26, will feature Tchaikovsky’s Fantasy overtures for the three Shakespeare plays, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. It will be part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s TchaikovskyFest series of concerts.

Kate Burton will direct the concert. In 2011, she directed a similar Tchaikovsky-Shakespeare themed concert at Disney Hall that also featured Bloom as Romeo. (Anika Noni Rose played Juliet in that performance.)
