Based on Jane Austen’s 19th century novel of the same name, “Pride and Prejudice” tells the story of Elizabeth Bennet, a young woman who ultimately falls for unlikely suitor Mr. Darcy.
The story has been madeover several times for the screen and stage during its 200-year history. “Pride and Prejudice” made its Broadway debut in 1935 and played 219 performances before closing in 1936.
More recently, the 1995 BBC miniseries starred Colin Firth as the aloof yet endearing Darcy and Jennifer Ehle as headstrong Elizabeth.
