Disney is launching a ‘Newsies’ tour, coming to Pantages in 2015
“Newsies,” the Disney musical that opened on Broadway in 2012, will launch a national tour that will come to Los Angeles in 2015, organizers said Wednesday.
The musical, which features songs by multiple Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken, is set to run at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood for four weeks during spring 2015, but no specific dates have been announced.
Organizers said that the tour will launch in Philadelphia in October 2014. Other stops will include Chicago and Las Vegas.

“Newsies” is based on the 1992 Disney movie musical that starred Christian Bale as a newsboy who helps organize a strike. Menken worked on the movie and wrote new numbers for the stage adaptation.
The Broadway production, which is running at the Nederlander Theatre in New York, has been a profitable enterprise, recouping its initial $5-million investment nine months after opening. The show had a tryout run at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey before bowing on Broadway.
“Newsies” received eight Tony Award nominations and won in the categories of choreography and original score.
The musical is the latest hit from Disney Theatrical Productions to go on the road. The company has produced North American touring versions of “The Lion King,” “Mary Poppins” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
