Bernadette Peters stars as Feinstein picks Pasadena Pops season
Saturday in the park with Bernadette (Peters, that is) will highlight the summer season at the Los Angeles County Arboretum announced by the Pasadena Pops and its new principal conductor, Michael Feinstein.
Peters, whose many starring turns on Broadway include the original production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park With George” in 1984, will be the headliner on June 29, with Larry Blank conducting.

Feinstein will conduct three of the five shows in the series, leading a “Michael Feinstein’s Songbook” program (June 1) with singers Cheyenne Jackson and Lari White as guest artists, “Michael Feinstein’s MGM Movie Classics” (July 13), with guest singers Ron Raines and Christine Ebersole; and “The Gershwins and Me” (Sept. 7), with Catherine Russell and Chuck Cooper as guests.
The other program is “Classical Mystery Tour: Music of the Beatles” (Aug. 10), with the Fab-revivalist foursome Classical Mystery Tour supported by the orchestra under conductor Martin Herman.
Shows start at 7:30 p.m. on the arboretum lawn in Arcadia; gates open to picnickers at 5:30 p.m.
Feinstein, one of last season’s pops headliners, was appointed to lead the summer series shortly after the death last August of his predecessor, Marvin Hamlisch.
